Embraer aircraft announced today that their Legacy 450 mid-light business jet has just set the speed record on a recent flight between California and Hawaii. According to the National Aeronautic Association (NAA), the Hawaii trip hosted by AirSprint. AirSprint is a Calgary-based operator with Canada’s largest fractional aircraft fleet and was the Legacy 450’s launch customer.
Two pilots, four passengers and three hundred pounds of baggage departed for the demonstration flight which departed from Oakland to Maui and returned to San Francisco. James Eilan, President and COO of AirSprint expressed great pleasure in AirSprint playing a major role in regards to this history making trip. The first flight from Oakland International Airport lasted five hours and fourteen minutes covering over two thousand four hundred miles which was the longest recorded flight to date for AirSprint. With only twenty five minutes into the flight the aircraft had already reached its projected cruising altitude of forty three thousand feet.
Landing at Maui’s Kahului Airport, the aircraft still had ample fuel reserves of twenty five hundred pounds due to having consumed only two hundred forty three gallons per hour of flight for a total of eighty seven hundred pounds of fuel. The maximum speed achieved during the flight was four hundred and fifty knots or five hundred and eighteen miles per hour. The average speed was about four hundred and fifty miles per hour which established a new speed record for the course.
